Remember, it’s not always about studying hard; it’s about studying smart. And studying smart involves overcoming some time management challenges. 

The first step to effective exam time management is recognizing that time is a finite resource. It’s like a ticking clock on a timed chess match. 

Every second you spend ruminating about the task at hand is a second lost. Be proactive, not reactive. Plan, prioritize, and perform. You’ve got this!

Let’s continue with the history example. In today’s session, your goal might be to understand the causes and effects of the French Revolution, and tomorrow, you may aim to explore the main figures and their influences. 

This strategy not only structures your study plan but also provides a sense of achievement as you tick off each goal, driving your motivation to move on to the next. 

It’s not just about managing time but also managing your morale and motivation.

If everything is a priority, nothing is a priority. So, how can you prioritize your tasks during exams? 

Identify and allocate more time to the most important and challenging topics or subjects. This doesn’t mean ignoring the rest but rather strategically allocating your time.

One strategy that worked wonders for me was the 80/20 rule, also known as the Pareto Principle. It suggests that 80% of your outcomes come from 20% of your efforts. 

Also, pay attention to your study patterns. Are you more alert in the morning or at night? Slot challenging topics into your peak productive times. 

Avoid Multitasking

While studying multiple subjects simultaneously may seem efficient, it can hinder your focus and comprehension. Multitasking often leads to mistakes and decreased productivity. 

Instead, concentrate on one subject at a time to maintain concentration and absorb the material more effectively.

Eliminate Distractions

Distractions can devour your study time by pulling your focus away from your tasks, leading to decreased productivity and prolonged study sessions.

Find a quiet and comfortable study environment free from distractions like phones, social media, or noisy surroundings.

But guess what? You can overcome it. How, you ask? By adopting a couple of techniques. 

For instance, use the Pomodoro technique, which involves breaking your study sessions into intervals (usually 25 minutes) separated by short breaks. This technique maintains your focus and staves off burnout.

Moreover, treat your study time like an appointment. 

If you scheduled a meeting with your favorite celebrity, would you miss it? Probably not. Treat your study sessions with the same importance.

Balancing Study and Breaks

Balance is the key to life, and the same applies to your study routine. Too much of either—study or breaks—can be detrimental. 

Studying for long hours can lead to burnout, while excessive breaks can disrupt your study flow. Striking a balance is crucial.

  3. And most importantly, keep an eye on the exam timer and pace yourself accordingly.
